Henna aftercare
1. Let the paste sit (the longer, the better!)
Your henna paste will dry within about an hour, but don’t rush to remove it. Keep the paste on your skin for 4–12 hours, or as long as you can. If you received your henna in the evening, sleeping with the paste on is highly recommended for the deepest, most beautiful stain.
2. Stay warm for a deeper stain 🔥
Heat helps your henna work its magic! While your paste is on, try to stay warm—this encourages a darker, richer color.
3. Use natural oil to remove and protect
Gently remove your paste using coconut oil. -DO NOT WASH OFF OR USE WATER-the oil protects your stain and helps to remove those stubborn pieces that aren't as easy to scrape off.
Right after removal, your stain will appear a bright orange (don’t panic—that’s normal). It will gradually darken over the next 24-48 hours.
4. Avoid water for 24 hours
Once your paste is removed, keep your design away from water until you reach the full 24-hour mark. This gives your stain time to oxidize and deepen in color.
I know 24hrs may scare you, but do the best you can. You’ll most likely get a stain regardless, but the closer you follow proper aftercare the most likely it will last 7-10 days.
*BONUS: To extend the life of your henna:
Apply coconut oil to your stain daily
Add oil before showering or swimming
(No coconut oil? Olive, avocado, grapeseed, or almond oil works just as well!)
With the right care, your henna will continue to deepen and glow over the next few days—trust the process, it’s worth it 😉
